Hack your Productivity

July 29, 2014 By Jamez Shepherd

As a modern culture, it’s fair to say we’re all pretty obsessed with productivity and efficiency. And with so much to accomplish in a fast paced competitive world, it’s easy to see why. Personally, the key to getting the most out of my day comes from simplifying as many processes as possible. Just finding one simple program to combine the tasks of three can make a massive impact on my productivity.

If you ask my parents, they’ll say that members of Gen Y spend our whole lives cutting corners and finding the easy way out of things. In fact, my folks have been known to call me ‘Lazy’… and I can’t really disagree. Life is short. YOLO. Cut down on time stealing little tasks and start living!

So here’s my list of everyday ‘hacks’ to shortcut your day. Adopt one or even a few of these, so you can get back to doing something meaningful for yourself and your clients!

RoboFormRoboForm remembers your passwords so you don’t have to! When you log into a website, RoboForm automatically offers to save your Login information. The bookmark-style Logins automatically log you into your favourite websites with one click. All controlled under a master account, just log out of RoboForm to keep your nosey colleagues out of your E-Harmony account!
SaneBoxSaneBox determines the importance of each email based on your past interaction with your Inbox. It moves unimportant messages out of the Inbox into a new folder called ‘SaneLater’, and summarises them in a digest. This one is great, especially if you’re still using Microsoft Outlook (but more on why you should think outside of Microsoft in another Top Tip!)
TripItIf you’re constantly hopping between airports around the country, your life is about to get a whole lot easier. TripIt is a mobile and tablet app that files all your itineraries in one place. You can also have it automatically send your itineraries to your significant other, or colleagues. The Pro version even alerts you of flight delays and gate changes so you don’t have to waste time getting lost at the airport.
GyazoGyazo is a single click screen capture and upload tool that works on both Windows and Mac. Need to show a client or colleague something on your screen? Just click, drag a box around the area you want to show, release the mouse button and Gyazo will magically upload your capture to the internet. Say goodbye to your Print Screen button forever!
SkypeStay connected with all of your contacts all the time. It’s free and it’s on every device. Text and instant messaging, voice calls, video calls, file transfer, group/conference calls, online meetings… it’s all there in one simple program (and a lot quicker than email!)

So there we go, my basic list of everyday hacks for business professionals. Hopefully I just found you an extra hour in your day! And if I did… you’re welcome 🙂

If you’d like to find more cool productivity hacks, or have a particular problem you’d love to find an easier way of doing, please let us know! We may even be able to save each other some more time in our crazy crazy super busy schedules.

So what are you going to do with all that extra time in your day?
